Designer Bio
PROPHETIK “wearable philosophy”.
The Sustainable Journey: A meaningful analysis and evaluation of any product's relationship to the environment must include a broad array of criteria including low-impact production, low-impact maintenance, and its classification as recyclable, reusable. Primary considerations are low impact on plant and animal life, conservation of limited resources, and waste minimization.
Prophetik is also very focused on charity. One of their efforts is on land conservation both in their home state of Tennessee and in Thailand where they are working with the Asian Elephant Art & Conservation Project in raising funds to buy land and provide better food and veterinary care for the elephants whose handlers are begging on the streets.
Their partners at Elephant Art train the elephants to paint on Prophetik's organic silk and hemp fabric with their trunks, which were used for the "Elle" dress featured in Lucky magazine and their men's skinny suit. This is a specialty program in which Prophetik was picked as 1 of the 12 designers in the world to participate in. For details: www.elephantart.com.
Prophetik's Fall/Winter charity project is "Equine Destiny", a movie depicting and exposing the inhumane way in which America's horses are still being handled. The movie has been submitted for consideration to the Sundance Film Festival 2010. For details: www.equinedestiny.com.
